
Nutri-stahl produces stainless steel cookware in Cape Town. The pots and pans have a thick aluminium base, so they won’t work on induction stoves, but otherwise they look like a fine range of cookware and come with a lifetime guarantee.
For baking, you can look out for the locally manufactured brand Metalix which includes, for example, muffin pans. All Unico cooking and baking utensils are imported.
Sadly even the ultimate RSA cooking implement, the potjie pot, comes from China these days, at least if you buy the Bush Baby brand.
On a fashionable aside: The prohibitively expensive French brand, Le Creuset, makes good quality cast-iron pots, pans and casseroles. Those are actually produced in France. Their growing range of stoneware is possibly designed in France but it is certainly manufactured in Asia – and then sold at Euro prices.
